Precious! – Satire Short Story

Precious, that is how it was called on the land of imaginations. It belonged to the
gods but by some reason, it was then on the land of mortals. The gods could not take it back to
their land, but they simply could not just leave it with the humans, for precious had powers
which once only gods possessed. Gods feared if it fell into wrong hands its powers might be
misused. For this same reason, He Himself came down to the land of mortals and hid it in far
lands behind the mountains, where man could not reach.

Only few selected had access to the knowledge of where precious was and the way to
reach it, of which, one was a saint. The saint did not have anything of his own; he travelled to
places, begged for food and lived a quite life sharing sacred knowledge to the common people.
On one winter he reached a land where a kind and adventurous king reigned. But the
king was quite useless as he could not control fights in between his own people. No one obeyed
him. He wanted to end it all but he was not the rat who gets out of the maze. He understood he
could not do it alone, so he thought he could seek someone’s help. It was then he heard about
the saint with sacred knowledge. The king approached the saint. Saint, after understanding the
neediness of the king, suggested him about the “precious”.

After some months the king with the help of saint, conquered the “precious”. He
could do so because even the gods wanted him to get it, gods wanted precious to be in good
hands.

The king used the “precious” in the right way. His people had stopped quarrelling and
started obeying him. Because, he then had powers such that he could control everyone with
just his smile. His smile was so charming that all were enchanted by it and none ever
questioned him. At last all is well that ends well.

But it is quite an interesting fact that you have been reading a story about something,
without even knowing what it is! But question arises, what is the “precious”? Well, answer is
simple. As I said before, it is land of imaginations and precious is nothing but “Toothpaste”!
